So much to report! So little time! What a fun conference, even for an introvert like moi…
Which is where I’ll start, with thanks to my friend, erotic historical romance writer Leanne Shawler, for asking me to moderate her workshop, How to Be a Trained Extrovert. Here’s her blurb for the workshop:
Most writers are introverts but, to succeed at the business of writing, writers need to talk to real people and network. A trained extrovert will share some tips to help introverts get out of the hermit’s cell, as well as reveal an introvert’s secret weapon—active listening.
Wonderfully, the workshop delivers.
Leanne’s right: a writer knows how to listen, and everyone loves to be listened to. You can go far in a social situation, just being interested in the interesting people around you. Several hours after the workshop, I did my own introverts’ personal best at the Penguin/Berkeley cocktail party. I talked to people! People talked to me! I had fun! I loved the diversity swirling around me, perhaps especially because my two areas — erotic and historical writing — span such a richness of worlds and writing — and also because I love meeting people who know me through my work as Molly Weatherfield (more about that later… stay tuned).
I see that Leanne hasn’t updated her web site to include this workshop. You should join me in bugging her to do so, asap, and to offer it again.
And you should bug me to learn to take pictures of myself with all the terrific people I’ve been meeting (or to have pictures taken). But perhaps that’s Shy-People 101B class.
Anyway, it was fun. And I’ll be writing more.

Oh yeah, Pam, updating my website(s) are on my to-do list!
And I never remember about cameras and photos either. I got totally freaked out on the last day when I found myself in front of a video camera.
Ye gods.

Video, Leanne? Yikes, that would be too much for me (I remember when my workplace got behind video-conferencing — everybody hated it).
Looking forward to hanging out with you again… National in 2009 or before…
